RHEL7.4 Guest : VBOXadd service takes 2+ mins to start on boot

Post by KD »

VBOX version : 5.1.28 Win64 on Win7
Guest Additions : 5.1.29-117988

I had to install guest additions from test build because Window Auto-resize functionality is broken with 5.1.28 Guest Addition and RHEL 7.4 (X11 1.19). The VM works fine after bootup but the bootup itself takes several mins. Below is the systemd-analyze output

The time after the unit is active or started is printed after the "@" character.
The time the unit takes to start is printed after the "+" character.

graphical.target @3min 11.853s
└─multi-user.target @3min 11.852s
└─vboxadd-service.service @2min 53.137s +491ms
└─vboxadd.service @10.099s +2min 43.036s
└─basic.target @8.303s
└─sockets.target @8.303s
└─rpcbind.socket @8.303s
└─sysinit.target @8.295s
└─systemd-update-utmp.service @8.263s +31ms
└─auditd.service @7.314s +948ms
└─systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service @7.172s +140ms
└─rhel-import-state.service @7.046s +125ms
└─local-fs.target @7.045s
└─run-user-12549.mount @3min 429ms
└─local-fs-pre.target @6.670s
└─lvm2-monitor.service @2.744s +3.926s
└─lvm2-lvmetad.service @3.558s
└─lvm2-lvmetad.socket @2.743s
└─-.slice

There is no additional logging available from /var/log to look at. Does anyone else face this problem? Any ideas how to troubleshoot further or if there are known fixes?

Hi, I was running 5.1.28 on MacOS and the guest additions were not loading on OEL7.4/OEL7.4UEK. I tried the very last BETA2 and BETA3 r118015 to no avail. Kernel configuration invalid error message in the boxadd-setup.log file. Linux version: Oracle Linux 7.4 Kernel version: 4.1.12-103.3.8.el7uek.x86_64.

I was never able to get the video driver to be recognized for the guest addition, always an 800*600. I think VB Guest Additions video driver doesn't work with kernel version 4.1.12 w X11 1.19?
Thanks
