Ubuntu guests do not detect usb devices BUT Windows guests do.

Post by bturner01 »

Running VirtualBox Version 5.1.26 r117224 (Qt5.5.1) in an Mint 18.2 host (Ubuntu 16.04 basically). The same extension pack is installed (done that twice) and VBox guest additions installed via the devices menu option. Guests are Windows XP, Windows 10, Ubuntu 16,04 server and Ubuntu 17.10 (alpha) Budgie. Everything works fine including shared folders in all 4 guests but neither of the Ubuntu guests can see any usb devices while both Windows guests see them OK. I am added to the vboxusers group in both of the ubuntu guests. Can anyone suggest a way to troubleshoot this? I've spent most of this afternoon googling for inspiration but nothing has popped up so far. Many thanks.

First steps are to provide the following

Post the guests log file ( as an attachment ). Right click on the guest in the Main Manager then click show log. Save and post as an attachment. Compress if it is too large to post.

Type id in the host terminal and post the results here.
