I've been running VirtualBox on a Windows 7 (64bit) host for a long time without any issues. My VMs being various versions of Linux Mint or other Linux distributions. All working fine on VirtualBox up through v. 5.1.24-117012.
This morning I downloaded VirtualBox-5.1.26-117224-Win.exe and got it to install fine along with its 5.1.26 extension pack, but when I went to start my Linux Mint 18.2 (Mate) 64bit VM, the VM would not start properly and Windows gave me memory errors. After rebooting and trying to start my VM a few times, I tried doing a repair installation of 5.1.26 which did not help the situation. After an hour or so of troubleshooting, I just reinstalled version 5.1.24 and its extension pack. Now my Linux Mint VM works fine again.
I think 5.1.26 has a few issues.

If you don''t post a VBox.log of a failed session, I'm afraid that the "issues" will not resolve themselves.johnm64118 wrote:I think 5.1.26 has a few issues.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

Re: Mint 18 guest crashes with 5.1.26
After upgrading I have uninstalled guest additions and reinstalled them.
My ubuntu 16.04 guest is terribly slow. It was not behaving like that before!
I will send any data that you tell me.
Please help

Re: Mint 18 guest crashes with 5.1.26
Thread title changed from "VirtualBox-5.1.26-117224-Win.exe" to "Mint 18 guest crashes with 5.1.26" and moved to "Linux Guests" from "Windows Hosts".

- Follow a "start the VM from cold-boot" / "observe error" / "shutdown the VM" cycle.
- With the VM shut down completely (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
- Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response (see the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form).

Re: Mint 18 guest crashes with 5.1.26
I tried upgrading to 5.1.26 again. The installation of the update went fine in Windows for VirtualBox-5.1.26-117224-Win and Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.1.26-117224. My Linux Mint 18.2 started fine with the 5.1.24 guest additions. However, after updating the guest additions to 5.1.26 and rebooting the VM, I received a Windows error of "VirtualBox.exe - Application Error - The instruction at 0xe5cc6d43 referenced memory at 0x00000018. The memory could not be read."
Reading another post on 5.1.26, I changed my Audio Controller from ICH AC97 to Intel HD Audio for my Linux Mint 18.2 VM. This resolved my issue for me.

Same error with kivy-buildozer-vm-2.0 (Xubuntu), same solution (changed my Audio Controller from ICH AC97 to Intel HD Audio)
