internal Network problem with CentOS7
internal Network problem with CentOS7
Hi folks,
I am a newbie at VirtualBox and have started using it as a last resort.
Story in a brief : Older linux Machine can't run more than one KVM at once, my requirement was at least two. Tried dual booting win 10 with CentOS7, referred 5/6 tutorials to absolutely no effect. Only option left was to install a virtualization client and install virtual machines as guests. Enter VirtualBox..
I have set up two network interfaces for both of my VM guests. Both run same OS (same kernel, installed from same ISO, CentOS7). The attached screenshots are for one guest, but they are identical for both. During installation, Net1 interface (detected in both guests as enp0s3) wanted to have DHCP based IPs [from the range 10.10.... or similar class A], however, I set static IPs (192.168.122.50/24 and 192.168.122.150/24). These are the IPs that I require.
Everything boots, but my guests can't 'ping' (and by extension ssh,telnet.. etc) to each other.
Net2 on the other hand, is up in the OS, but do not have any IP assigned.
At this point, I do not understand what other information you might require, so please ask away..
note:, no win-linux fistfights..please!!

Re: internal Network problem with CentOS7
Post the results of ifconfig -a from both guests.
Re: internal Network problem with CentOS7
@Perryg, thanks. Here you go...
It might have something to do with that routing table, but I can't put my finger to it.. Also I have defined the network as private_1 like this :
Re: internal Network problem with CentOS7
and the corresponding files from other guest..
similar routing table.. the mask is /32 oddly...-

Re: internal Network problem with CentOS7
These are clones aren’t they? It looks like they have the same MAC addresses. Re-initialize them and it should work.
Re: internal Network problem with CentOS7
@PerryG, well, I installed them separately but at this moment they are exactly similar (server with GUI).. preparing for RHCSA and RHCE ..
but if you see the Mac Addresses of both servers ( for enp0s3 port) the MAC addresses are very different, I don't think MAC to be the problem here..
server1 MAC : 08:00:27:69:94:07
tester1 MAC : 08:00:27:17:80:db

Re: internal Network problem with CentOS7
I admit it was hard to tell with all the extra to look through. Plus it being a screen shot and not text I could not diff the files.
Post the following from the host terminal/command window for each guest:
VBoxManage showvminfo <name of guest>
Put it is a text file please.

Hi PerryG, ah, and here I thought screentshots would be better !! ..sorry
I'll update this thread once I have my test machine at hand, that's 9 hours away..

Re: internal Network problem with CentOS7
I edited and removed the pre and instead placed code tags around the text. Makes it easier to read multiple files.
From what I see VirtualBox is happy and all of the entries should work. If you are still having issues you will need to look at the guest and the settings you have used. Make sure iptables are not causing this and firewall issues would be another place to look.

Re: internal Network problem with CentOS7
Thanks for your assistance PerryG.
I have installed another competing product and the VMs are now talking to each other... so the quick fix is to change product..
Maybe I'll pickup VirtualBox again in future..
