Just today, I started noticing that my Debian guest was causing Virtualbox to hang. I've had this happen twice so far, and it only happens when I log into KDE, and it's about to finish loading and hand over my desktop. My CPU sounds like it's getting maxed out on one or two threads. I believe this started happening about when I updated to virtualbox 5.0.18, and likewise with the guest additions.
Virtualbox version: 5.0.18, same version of guest additions is installed.
Host is Windows 10 64 bit, guest is Debian Jessie with kernel 686-pae (64 bit).
Please see below for me logs. The basic log will show you everything from when I start the guest, up to when I attempt to pause the machine/close the window when it's become apparent that Virtualbox has frozen.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Debian Jessie causing VBox to hang
686-pae is not a 64-bit kernel. Try setting it to 32 bit and see if it helps.

Re: Debian Jessie causing VBox to hang
I set the Operating System type to "Linux 2.6 / 3.x / 4.x (32-bit)", and I was still able to reproduce the hang.Perryg wrote:686-pae is not a 64-bit kernel. Try setting it to 32 bit and see if it helps.

I don't use KDE so I will leave you to someone that does.

Re: Debian Jessie causing VBox to hang
If you don't mind me asking though, do you think KDE could actually be the cause? I would think that Virtualbox should be somewhat immune to hanging from guest applications. I'm actually dealing with a (potentially) unrelated bug in Network Manager, so who knows?Perryg wrote:I don't use KDE so I will leave you to someone that does.

Re: Debian Jessie causing VBox to hang
KDE has always been a thorn in my side, and never worked as well as just about anything else in a virtual machine IMHO. So if you ask me, and you did, I would have to say yes it very well could be the cause, but that is just my opinion. I believe that others that use KDE say they needed to disable 3D to get it to work properly, but that forces software rendering and becomes very CPU intensive, so for me it is not a solution.
