Insert Guest Addition CD image...does not work

Post by gupta58 »

RHEL 6 guest on Windows 7 host has been working fine, including Device > Insert Guest Additions CD image...first time, a few days ago.
Today, I updated VBox from 5.0.4 to 5.0.6, got a popup saying that I should update Guest Additions from 5.0.4 to 5.0.6.
Now, when I click Device > Insert Guest Additions CD image...nothing happens.
Is Guest Addition updated? How do I know for sure?

What you did is simply inserted the CD. You should be able to see it in your File Manager and/or on your desktop. In order to install/update the GAs follow the instructions here: Chapter 4.2.2 Guest Additions for Linux
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

I did not see the CD iso image among mounted file systems, tried many time. After a reboot, now I see it. It would have been nice if VBox displayed some useful message why the CD image was not mounted earlier.

Thanks.

Not quite. Once the .iso is made available there is no way for VirtualBox to know whether the guest OS mounted it or not. Some have their Linux systems set to not mount an inserted CD/DVD/Audio CD/.iso etc. etc.
