I want to report that using the netinstall iso and following the normal procedure (necessary rpms and KERN_DIR) for installing the latest guest additions causes the virtual guest to crash. VBox 5.0.4r102456 - Guest Additions 5.0.4 - Fedora Beta 23 x86_64 - 8GB HDD Fixed - 128MB Video - 2 Cores - 3D Acceleration Enabled/Disabled(tried both) - Virtual Extensions Enabled. Host is: i7 4710MQ, 16GB, SSD, Win7 Enterprise 64.

I will keep reporting and try to gather more information.

This is not a complaint, I realize it was just released. Any additional input, ideas, suggestions, help is welcome.

As of 28 SEPTEMBER 2015, the Virtual Box Guest Additions 50. for Fedora 23 guest compile and install... However, they now say "This is an unsupported version of X org and so the X Windows driver will not be installed". I'm assuming that this will require a change to the Guest Additions ISO. Do you have any idea which version of Virtual Box will support Fedora 23 -- I know it hasn't been released yet -- and when that might be released?

Thanks

I think you may be the first person to ask which version number will be compatible in the future rather than when but the answer is the same. When it does. No way to know now.

FWIW, trying the 5.0.5 r102947 test build for OSX. The odd thing is, the GAs install without an error, OKs at each step but the guest additions still don't work.

Odd.

Odd.
The issue is due to a pre-release of Xorg and VirtualBox is not compatible with it yet. You should see this in the /var/log/vboxadd-install.log

I got around to looking at the logs. Nothing to speak of in the vboxadd-install.log but there are messages in the VBoxGuestAddittions.log which I assume have some meaning.

Your log is full of systemd calls which was discussed earlier, not sure where exactly, but the fix for that was to remove VBox service from the systemctl since VBox does not use it. At least not yet.

Still you should have seen the not installing Xorg because it is a pre-release during the install from terminal.

yes well, I had no errors in the terminal. I'll wait. I don't care for Fedora anyway. I was just testing. :)

This is what I get in the terminal.

Code: Select all

Warning: unsupported pre-release version of X.Org Server installed. Not
installing the X.Org drivers.
But your issue with systemd may be causing other issues that I don't see now. I remember vaguely having issues when 23 was in alpha but I do so many things I can't be sure exactly what it was.

Well, I had updated Fedora 23 before i tried installing the GAs again. And as I mentioned I am running the current test build which was posted today I guess. Maybe that's why I had no warning..

FWIW, Fedora 23 is supposed to be released today. The guest additions still don't build up to the current 5.0.9 test build. Same warning that Perryg posted.

Fedora 23 is release and even with GA 5.0.0-103449, I'm getting the same error with unsupported Xorg. I'm expecting a new releas of GA soon.
