Intel AMT and Intel NFF make my VM run sluggish

Post by llourie67 »

I am using VirtualBox to test and train on products running on top of Oracle Linux.
I have a pretty new Thinkpad T450, and ran into issues when using my VMs - that are fully functional on other machines - on my new Thinkpad.
The issues were mainly that my system inside the VM ran very, very slow - and some of my software just didn't fully start anymore.

After quite a lot of testing of different configurations, I think I found a solution that I want to share.
After disabling Intel AMT and Intel NFF in the BIOS, my VM works as it should again.
I have also changed the power settings in the BIOS to always prioritize performance, but that alone did not make a difference, but maybe the combination of this and disabling Intel AMT and Intel NFF made a difference. I haven't tested all possible combinations.

It still takes a while before it starts the boot process - but when finally the boot process get going, the machine is very fast.

Hope this post can help others with similar issues.
