"end kernel panic - not syncing attempted to kill init"

Postby Doggy12 » 25. Jul 2015, 16:24

Hello!

Sorry to be a pest, but I've looked around and can't seem to find a solution to my particular issue, you see I keep getting this error message whenever I try launch Ubuntu on my linux VM. I have no clue whatsoever as to what is causing it and have been troubleshooting all afternoon :(

Are you trying to run a guest within a guest?

Post the guests log file ( as an attachment )

Depends on the host, but if you are using the VirtualBox GUI you simply right click on the guest and then show log. Save and post ( as an attachment ) the log that does not have a number following it.

That said you really need to answer my question or I will not be able to help you further.

I'm not 100% what a guest is, I'll just describe what I've done head to toe. Really really sorry you have to bear with me I'm a noob big time with this stuff.

I've created a partition that is entirely allocated to the virtual machine I've set up, said virtual machine is a Virtual Hard Disk running the Linux operating system - on that operating system I have tried to install Ubuntu by mounting an .iso file. I'm not sure which of those things counts as a guest :L

I've tried right clicking the Oracle VM VirtualBox and I don't get any option to get a guest log either.

Once again I am so so so sorry I'm sure my incompetence is making you cringe right now.

First this is all done in the main manager. That is where you setup a guest by selecting new and then you accept the default which then creates the guest in the location that you set in the preferences. Do not make the mistake of trying to use the actual partition ( raw ). This is for experts only. You can set the preference to use the dedicated partition as long as yo do not specify a larger size for the guest than you actually have in the partition. If you do not change any of the default setting before you try to start the guest the wizard will ask for the location of the install media. You tell it where to locate the media and it will start the installation. Hopefully this is where you are now. If not then I need to know more.

I need to know what the host is and what exactly the guest is. Also post the exact name of the install iso in detail.

The name of the iso is "ubuntu-14.04.2-desktop-amd64"

Here is a screenshot of the guest details. I'm not sure how to answer your question about host because I don't know what that means.

Also some extra info: I've just tried using a different program which is meant to be a sufficient substitute for the one I am currently using called Kali and it gave an error again about a "Kernal", so I assume the issue is to do with something on my end rather than software.

Also I tried your advice about avoiding the partition but I still had the exact same issue, btw the only reason I'm using the partition is because it's encrypted and the whole goal of this is to have a secure and anonymous method of accessing the internet.

Also I am only using the partition as a place to save the virtual machine file, sorry I should have been more clear. And also yes, I am at the point you described - basically I have the virtual CD in the virtual Machine but for some virtual reason it wont virtually install it.

OK So I see a guest that you already have in a saved state. Post the guests log file for that one so I can see what the host is and its resources.

Right click on the one called Firewall and the left click on show log. Select the one that does not have numbers and post that as an attachment.

Note: host = the PC that you installed VirtualBox on.

Here are all three, they all had numbers so I wasn't sure what to give you. :/

Code: Select all   Expand viewCollapse view
00:00:01.481373 HMR3Init: Falling back to raw-mode: VT-x is disabled in the BIOS.

You need hardware virtualization enabled in your PCs bios
