For the life of me I cannot figure out how to type the pipe symbol, obviously vital for use within Linux. Using a standard non extended Mac wireless keyboard and Virtual box with Kali-Linux. Any help greatly appreciated.
If I hit shift and the symbol key for the pipe all I get is a tilde. Also the usual alt-shift-L doesn't work at all within the virtual machine.

When I type the | symbol in my Linux guests I get the pipe symbol. Make sure the encoding for the Terminal in Kali is set to UTF8.

It's cool I figured it out. For anyone in future with this issue under the British keyboard layout anyway.. to get the pipe symbol I pressed "right-alt - tilde key"
