Network Unstable after Update to VBox 4.3.26

Post by Stonetree »

I have recently updated to 4.3.26 r98988. Since updating, my guests have been randomly disconnecting and resetting the NIC. Sometimes its every few minutes, sometimes I can go 30 minutes.

The host is fine, no network issues found. I even re-imaged the entire host with a fresh Win-7-64-pro. Any Ideas?

Re: Network Unstable after Update to VBox 4.3.26

 Uninstalled/Reinstalled 4.3.26-98988
 Created a fresh Ubuntu install from a newly downloaded ISO
 Did the same thing on 2 other machines, Work and Home
 Issue was still happening

After some troubleshooting, downgrading one at a time, I believe this issue started at 4.3.22-98236
Downgraded the VBox Client to 4.3.20-96997 and everything is working correctly again. I didn't even have to downgrade the VBoxGuestAdditions or build a new machine. I have been using this version all day, no problems yet.

Therefore my conclusion is:

 4.3.20-96997 - Good
 4.3.22-98236 - BUG
 4.3.24-98716 - BUG
 4.3.26-98988 - BUG

Where do I submit bug reports?

Hello,

Got the same problem ! Network is very unstable (practically not usable) after update to 4.3.26.
No network problem on my host network.

  • Host : Windows 7-64 Pro
  • Guest : Debian 8-64 (Fresh install, without X)

Re: Network Unstable after Update to VBox 4.3.26

Post by rom1nux »

Hello,

I change the virtual network board from "Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (82540EM)" to "PCnet - FAST III (Am79C973)" and I feel I have recovered the network stability.

Hope this help

The change to "PCnet - FAST III (Am79C973) has not resolved the issue for me.

Same issue here... :(

All my guests (debian wheezy, debian jessie, ubuntu desktop) are having this problem.

Will try some of your tipps and will post if I get success.

Hello

Yes Danny K, you are right, i should look better...

I use Putty to connect (Via NAT) to my guest Debian (i use it to build a LFS).
  • With the "Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (82540EM)" i got several traces of connect/disconnect in my syslog and the Putty always disconnect.
  • With the "PCnet - FAST III (Am79C973)" i got several traces of connect/disconnect in my syslog too BUT Putty stay connected
In other word, i can build an entier LFS without a single Putty disconnection with the "PCnet - FAST III (Am79C973)"

syslog with "PCnet - FAST III (Am79C973)" :

Problem seems to be solved for me after upgrading to version 5.0.2. Host Win 7 64bit, Guest Ubuntu 14.4 LTS.
