Here is a screenshot of the error:
---apparently I can't post a link to the screenshot, and the file is too large to upload.
It says:
Unable to mount VBOXADDITIONS_4.3.20_96996
Error mounting /dev/sr0 at /media/guy/VBOXADDITIONS_4.3.20_96996: Comand-line
`mount -t "iso9660" -o

"/dev/sr0" "/media/guy/VBOXADDITIONS_4.3.20_96996"' exited with a non-zero exit status

Does anyone know how to fix this? It happened after I updated/upgraded. I tried to install the guest additions again and this is what happened. I tried using another iso I have on my computer just to see and it wouldn't mount either, with the same problem. Is there some way to make the iso9660 filesystem known so that VBoxAdditions can be installed?

I would then say that this is a problem not directly related to VirtualBox, but something went wrong with your updates. I would try to search in the appropriate OS forums (you do not mention if this happened in the host or the guest, neither do you mention the OS of either of them).Frogglet wrote:I tried using another iso I have on my computer just to see and it wouldn't mount either, with the same problem.

Re: Unable to mount CDs; iso9660 filesystem unknown
Okay, thank you for the suggestion. I will take this to an ubuntu forum. Fwiw, the host OS is windows 8.1, and the guest is ubuntu 14.04, and the problem is occuring in the ubuntu guest.

It seems that here are multiple Ubuntu-related reports about same problem.

Re: Unable to mount CDs; iso9660 filesystem unknown
If you have already selected to insert the guest additions from the devices tab of the guest then the following will mount the additions in /media
Code: Select all
sudo mount /dev/sr0 /media

Re: Unable to mount CDs; iso9660 filesystem unknown
I seem to be having this exact problem with Fedora 20 guest. And if I insert the guest additions from the device tab and then try to mount them manually it fails with the same unknown iso9660 error. Has anyone found a solution?

Re: Unable to mount CDs; iso9660 filesystem unknown
Someone on the internet suggested downloading the guest additions iso directly in the guest and opening it with archive mounter then installing from there. This seems to have worked. Once I did this and after a reboot I could mount the iso as expected so I'm not sure what the initial problem was.
Re: Unable to mount CDs; iso9660 filesystem unknown
I had the same problem with Ubuntu 14.04. I solved it by doing the updates to the VM before choosing the Guest Additions from the devices menu.
