Error when entering fullscreen mode

Post by pegasus92 »

When I try to enter fullscreen mode with Ubuntu 14.04 (view -> switch to fullscreen) I get blackscreen and error: "The instruction 0x00000000 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the program" (sorry for not posting the screenshot, I'm new member so I'm not allowed to do that).
Btw I've set guest display and I'm getting full resolution in widow mode.

You can post a screenshot - you just can't post URLs. Post it as a direct attachment.

We also need a VM log file (complete, zipped). See Minimum information needed for assistance.

And please clarify that it's the VirtualBox VM which crashes, not some guest app running inside it.

And from the error window You can see that VBox is crashing.

I'd say you are giving this VM far too much RAM considering how much is available on your host. I would cut this to 2GB.

Contrariwise, 12MB VRAM is too small, and probably explains why it can't enter fullscreen mode. Normally the settings dialog will have given you a warning about this. I would increase this to 64MB.

I asked for one log - I'm not sure why you think I'd prefer to spend time guessing which of five is the relevant one.

You run a session which has the problem, you make sure that session is completed (VM shut down), then you grab and post the VBox.log file as a zipped attachment.

I'm sorry but I don't know in which .log file is the crash report. That's why I've posted all 3 .log files.

Could also try unticking "Mini Toolbar" in Settings -> General -> Advanced

That stopped the crash on "Full screen" for me - but I still have the other size problem.

I was able to get the error to stop and the VM to load by disabling 3D Acceleration.
This has happened to me in the past too, and after disabling it and booting the Vm, it can be shutdown and 3D acceleration can be re-enabled.

This usually happens when vbox guest additions are installed, which alters the kernel. Try disabling 3d acceleration, then installing the additions and then re-enable 3D.
