(Resolved)GA's won't build against xserver Debian Jessie
So, I thought VB built up to xserver 1.16 if not 1.17.
I guess not? VB thinks it's experimental.
I reverted to 1.15.1 and pinned it for now.

How did you do this?
I looked a number of places, but couldn't figure it out. I'm currently using my client at 1024x768 resolution.
Thanks,
Rob

once I saw it wouldn't build I restored the previous version from a backup and pinned it.biffhero wrote:How did you do this?

Do you still have the .deb files in /var/cache/apt/archives/ ?
I think the output of "ls -alhrt /var/cache/apt/archives/ | grep xserver" and "dpkg -l | grep xserver" would set me on the right path. I'll hunt to download all of them, and then "dpkg -i ./*.deb"
Thanks,
Rob

Re: GA's won't build against xserver 1.15.99.904-1 Debian Je
I have exactly the same problem....upgraded and can't roll back because the old version is not in the repos anymore and i also not have it in /var/cache/apt/archives.
At the moment im also sitting here with an 1024x768 resolution.....but no troubles, the update is already in unstable (xserver 1.16) and the GA installer will work with that version.
<edit>
I guessed wrong. Debian is updating X to a version which is also not supported by the GA installer. 1.15.99 was recognised as beta version, 1.16.1 is an not supported version.....

I will try the module from 1.16.1 later today, bypassing the installer altogether. Or, to be more accurate, letting the GA installer do it's thing, skipping the X video driver, and then copying it by hand.
Thanks for the pointer to unstable, I will try pinning unstable for xserver-*. I haven't been successful using pinning yet, but I'm sure the problem is on my end.

That was poorly worded. I meant, "I will try the 115 driver against the 1.16.1 xserver-xorg packages."biffhero wrote: I will try the module from 1.16.1 later today
As an additional bit of information, I found GA version 4.3.13 in another thread on this forum. I haven't had any success with them, though.

As you can see in the history of this bug:
https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/13207

That test version of the GA's got my xorg back as well with the xorg that came out of testing on 23 July, 2014.AMD1212 wrote:As you can see in the history of this bug:

I'm surprised Sparky is based on Jessie.

Just created this account to thank you for this info!
I was getting the "kernel headers were not found" error and this GA version worked as it should.
Edit: installing a guest Ubuntu 14.04
Thank you all!
Cheers.
