VLC Player (on UBuntu 12.04 guest) not able to play video

Hello,

When I open the VLC player to play .flv file, it opens and closes automatically in about 5 seconds. Please find the environment details below:

Host: Windows 7 64-bit
Guest: Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS 32-bit
vBox: 4.3.0
VLC: 2.0.8
Display Adapter: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 (this is on Lenovo thinkpad T430)

When I try playing video in VLC, I get below message logged in syslog:

Similar messages like above gets logged exactly one times every time I try playing the video.
The video format does not matter. I tried .flv as well as .mp4 and the results are the same.

However, on the same platform, I have an Ubuntu 10.04 guest running as well and I absolutely have no problems with vlc over there.

Any pointers?

try switching the video output in VLC to X11 in the VLC preferences.

then quit VLC and restart it.
