D-Bus Server on OpenSUSE
D-Bus Server on OpenSUSE
My Guest OS is OpenSUSE 12.2. I've installed the latest version of VirtualBox, not the OSE version available from SUSE. The DTE is KDE 4.8.5. All of my machines run fine, however, when I do something in VirtualBox Manager that requires the KDE file picker, i.e, attaching a vdi file to a SATA controller, I get the following error:
Could not start process Cannot talk to klauncher: Not connected to D-Bus server.
Any ideas?

Re: D-Bus Server on OpenSUSE
Apparently this is a KDE issue.
I have the same issue with all relevant versions of VirtualBox on
different computers with OpenSuse 12.1, 12.2 and KDE 4.8 and 4.9.

Same problem for me.
with OpenSuse 12.2 64bit and KDE 4.8.5

I've found that

The workaround is to downgrade to a previous version of dbus

Re: D-Bus Server on OpenSUSE
The upgrade to open Suse 12.2 installs v1.5.12-4.6.1 of dbus-1, dbus-1-x11 & libdbus-1-3. I rolled them back to 1.5.12-4.1.2 and that fixed it.
Best wishes

Thanks, downgrading of dbus helped.

Thks, but that didn't helpedsid1950 wrote:The upgrade to open Suse 12.2 installs v1.5.12-4.6.1 of dbus-1, dbus-1-x11 & libdbus-1-3. I rolled them back to 1.5.12-4.1.2 and that fixed it.
I'm now back on last update and waiting for a patch to appears in updates ....
I've noticed that the 4,2 Virtualbox didn't install as previous, I've had to log on as root to install it !
And now I can't access my shared forlder because of Klaucher and Dbus, but since my D:\Documents is on one of these separate partition, same as for accessing my NAS,
for now VirtualBox is of no use
Re: D-Bus Server on OpenSUSE
I have the same problem. I ran as root and it gave me the following response:
sarah:/home/ken # virtualbox
WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded. Either there is no module
available for the current kernel (3.4.11-2.16-desktop) or it failed to
load. Please recompile the kernel module and install it by
sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed.
klauncher(6281) kdemain: No DBUS session-bus found. Check if you have started the DBUS server.
kdeinit4: Communication error with launcher. Exiting!
Then did as suggested which yielded:
sarah:/home/ken # /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
Stopping VirtualBox kernel modules done
Uninstalling old VirtualBox DKMS kernel modules done
Trying to register the VirtualBox kernel modules using DKMS failed
(Failed, trying without DKMS)
Recompiling VirtualBox kernel modules failed
(Look at /var/log/vbox-install.log to find out what went wrong)
/var/log/vbox-install.log shows this:
/usr/share/virtualbox/src/vboxhost/build_in_tmp: line 62: make: command not found
So I am not sure where the difficulty lies.
Kernel release is: 3.4.11-2.16-desktop
/usr/src only shows folder for linux, linux-3.4.11-2.16 and vboxhost-4.2.0
openSUSE does not have 3.4.11-2.16-desktop source in repositories
Hope someone can sort this out, otherwise I'm stuck.
Cheers, RustyKen

Re: D-Bus Server on OpenSUSE
Yesterday I was able to get working for root although not user. At that point I started copying and linking files and then it got hosed. But that made it look like a permissions problem.
OK, 10/24/12 fresh start:
1. Back up your existing .vdi to somewhere safe, e.g., /data/computer/VMs/VirtualBox
2. Upgrade /etc/dbus-1 to the latest according to YaST.
3. Delete VirtualBox and reboot. Ensure .VirtualBox and VirtualBox VMs are gone.
4. Install from the Oracle RPM
VirtualBox-4.2-4.2.2_81494_openSUSE114-1.i586.rpm
5. Start virtualbox as user. This creates a /home/user/.VirtualBox directory containing
VBoxSVC.log
VirtualBox.xml
VirtualBox.xml-prev
compreg.dat
selectorwindow.log
xpti.dat
6. Create a new machine. The recommended RAM is 192MB. I give it 1024MB (I have lots of RAM).
7. Try to "use an existing hard drive". The list is presently empty. Navigate to your existing .vdi file. This fails with the noted message:
Could not start process Cannot talk to klauncher: Not connected to D-Bus server.
=====
8. OK, close out of VirtualBox and try to repeat steps 5-6 as root.
a. #virtualbox & returns:
Failed to create the VirtualBox COM object.
The application will now terminate.
Details:
Callee RC: NS_BASE_STREAM_WOULD_BLOCK (0x80470007)
b. #virtualbox (no ampersand) returns the same error
=====
9. I seem to recall we had to reboot after reinstalling since we're messing with kernel modules. Reboot and try to repeat 5-6:
a. first as user: nope, no joy. Clicking on the folder to find an existing file returns:
Could not start process Cannot talk to klauncher: Not connected to D-Bus server.
b. Then as root: Nope, same error as #8b.
=====
10. OK, downgrade /etc/dbus-1 as recommended and start 5-6
a. again as user
Same as 9a.
b. and as root
Same as 8b.
=====
11. Reboot again to restart dbus and start 5-6
a. again as user
Now clicking on the nav folder creates /home/andy/121024_WinXP folder but then the app freezes. No error message, just freezes.
b. and as root
Same as 8b.
==================
I'll try all this again (push the car back up the hill). Yesterday I was able to get working for root although not user. At that point I started copying and linking files and then it got hosed.
Best regards, Andy

I have updated D-Bus with new patches. Volunteers who experience the bug please
test by using D-Bus packages from
http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... /standard/
Please report back if this version works well.
Thanks.

Will this update available into regular update repository for i586? Not into
the home: repository.
[reply] [-] Comment 44 Marcus Meissner 2012-10-29 06:56:36 UTC
Yes, it is just waiting a bit for people to test in the -test update channel,
but will be released in 2 - 3 days if nothing shows up.
Re: D-Bus Server on OpenSUSE
