GRUB or LILO loaders will not install from ubuntu 7.10 iso

This has occurred now with Ubuntu and Kubuntu 7.10.

Does anyone know if this is because I am attempting to install from a .iso file rather than the CD?

The specific error is the installation of the GRUB boot loaded on a hard disk.

LILO boot loader will also not load.

And it fails from either the ISO or a CD.

It would certainly be great if someone could offer some suggestions.

I have just my third failed attempt and once again the GRUB boot loader refuses to install... and I am sure the LILO will also refuse to install.

I did upgrade VB to 1.5.6. I installed it to a 2 GB partition which should be big enough (am just trying to run it to see if I like it)

But guess I will just stick with Fedora 8. As it installed and as it works it must be a better product.

Hmmm... maybe the problem is that I used the "alternate" installs. Will download the "desktop" version and try again.

My DVD ISO seems to work.. but I don't understand how to "install" it so it will load without the disk.
