You should not need to link it. If it doesn't exist in that place, then the install didn't go right.

The entries in Xorg.0.log are normal, we all get them. It doesn't mean 3D won't work.

I thought I would post a quick update. I've now got 3d working (mostly). It seems that the issue was that I was running virtualbox on my 2nd monitor... Yes as odd as it sounds, it opens up and runs in 3d mode on my main monitor, but runs in fallback mode on my 2nd monitor. I am able to start the VM up on my main monitor and move it to the 2nd and 3d continues to function.

Just installed VirtualBox 4.1.6 and installed new guest additions - still the same issue: the windows (e.g. terminal) are not visible in the normal desktop, only in the overview screen.

Maybe I'll try a fresh install with Ubuntu 11.10, to see if this will work.

Just did a fresh new install of Ubuntu 11.10, brought it up to date, then installed the GA, no problems whatsoever. If you have any issues, I really think it's the Host video card and driver that is causing a problem.

I am having a similar issue with Ubuntu 11.10 as a guest under Oracle Vbox 4.1.12. All worked okay until I installed OpenGL .066 from CPAN to do some OpenGL programming. Now I get:
/usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p ─┘
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa Project <-- Was Humper
OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer <-- Was Chromium
OpenGL version string: 1.4 (2.1 Mesa 7.11) <-- was 2.1 Chromium 1.9

Not software rendered: no <-- All were yes
Not blacklisted: yes
GLX fbconfig: yes
GLX texture from pixmap: yes
GL npot or rect textures: yes
GL vertex program: yes
GL fragment program: yes
GL vertex buffer object: no
GL framebuffer object: yes
GL version is 1.4+: yes

Unity 3D supported: no

The Host runs Win7 Home Premium SP1 with *GB of RAM, the guest runs in 3Gb with 128MB of Graphic RAM and 3D accelleration. I have tried everthing done in this post with no luck. The machine is a Compaq CQ62 laptop with M880 AMD graphics that has embeeded ATI Radon 4250 feature set, Up to loading opengl all worked, now I am broken and not sure how to fix the issue. I am new to Ubunto and Oracle Vbox. Can someone plase help.

Try installing the guest additions again (remove and install) and if that doesn't work you need to remove what it was you installed and probably install the guest additions again.

Still not working. Same results as posted as posted above. freeglut/opengl for Perl inoperable, none of my code runs. No issue there, I can develop on Windows on another machine.

FIXED! Removing this: #export LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 along with what I removed above, removing VB Extensions and reinstalling, rebooting, now all is fixed. :) Thanks for the support.
