Remove shared folders on Ubuntu Server 11.04

Post by gruppler »

After installing the VirtualBox addons, I created some shared folders but then later decided to remove them. However, after removing them in VirtualBox, they are still mounted when I reboot the guest. I didn't see anything in /etc/fstab that was mounting these folders.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

It really depends on how you created the shared folders. If you set it to auto mount then they were created in /media/sf_<share name>.
Removing the shares requires a reboot of the guest to actually remove them and the folders more than likely will still be there, but can be deleted manually.

I had some shares I created using automount I wish to remove, I have removed the shares, and rebooted the system, Folders of all old shares are still there, How does one remove the folders from the media folder? There is no option to delete them from the pulldown menu

As with any folder that was created on the Linux OS. You remove them with elevated permission.

And make sure that, even though you removed the SF definition, no files are inside the folder(s) you wish to remove.
