Kubuntu Lucid (10.04) not starting anymore with VB 3.2.10

Hi,

just upgraded my VB installation to 3.2.10 yesterday and now wanted to start my Kubuntu 10.04 guest system to upgrade guest additions but it is not booting anymore, boot screen seems to freeze, and if I boot in safe mode and select normal boot I get an error:

Code: Select all

/sbin/mount.vboxsf: mounting failed with the error: Protocol error
Hoping for any hints how to fix this...

PS: Host system: Windows Vista Business 32bit, 3 GB memory, Guest system: Kubuntu 10.04 32bit, assigned 1024 MB memory

Is the mount statement in the fstab?
Boot into safe mode and edit the fstab and comment out the command.
Then when it is running add the mount statement to your rc.local instead of the fstab and this will not happen again.

If safe mode (or recovery mode) doesn't work either, boot a Live CD, mount the root file system drive of the VM and edit fstab from there, then reboot to normal mode.
