Hi all,
I am using Arch Linux x86_64 with Guest Additions installed and X.org Server 1.8. Host is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit with Virtualbox 3.2.2.
I seem to have no mouse-over effects at all inside the guest. My window manager (wmii) normally has sloppy focus, i.e., focus follows mouse, but I have to click inside the windows to focus them. Also, in Firefox, menus that are based on the mouse-over effect on some sites do not work inside Virtualbox, I have to click the menus to open them.
Any ideas what the problem is here? I tried to disable the absolute pointing device in the settings, but this made no difference. Also it seems to be independent of the window manager I use in the guest.
Thanks for any help,
Thomas

Re: no mouse-over functionality
Can you give an example site where your mouse doesn't work properly on a menu? All sites that I know of work file with mouse-over effects.

The upper menu is mouse-over. If I hover over "Reviews" nothing happens. If I click on "Reviews", two things happen: The drop-down menu opens and at the same time the link that "Reviews" includes is followed. So effectively, I cannot make use of the drop-down menu.
Another thing, don't know if it is related: If I mark text in any application, being Firefox or xterm or anything else, I see the marking only if I release the mouse button, not while marking the text.

Re: no mouse-over functionality
The first Linux VM I just tested with had no problems with the site you mentioned. I do however recall the problem from an older version. What happens if you keep hitting a key when you move the mouse? Lets say you press the left ctrl when you move the mouse, hold it on the menu, press the key, does it pop up the menu? If it does, then it's the same problem they had when Ubuntu Lucid was just released and used a new Xserver version. I think so because your Xserver version is newer than that of Ubuntu atm. Ubuntu is at 1.7 atm, 1.8 was released just recently I guess. Be patient and submit a bug report in the Bugtracker (separate account needed) if one doesn't exist yet to let the devs update the GA to work better with version 1.8 of Xserver.

Re: no mouse-over functionality
You are right, when holding the left Ctrl, everything works. Mouse follows focus and the hover effects in the browser do work. Thanks.
I will file a bug report.
