Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx (alpha) Install Problems

Postby pconwell » 1. Feb 2010, 06:00

When I install Lucid in in Virutal Box, it is either really, really slow, or it won't install at all.

The only real luck I have had is to install the server version and disable acpi and lacpi from the install screen. It will install, but very, very, very slowly. I doesn't really work.

I've been using the daily builds from the past few days. They all have the same problems. I have also tried the server, desktop, and alternate disks, but no luck.

I've Googled this to death. Any Ideas? I don't even know where to start.

Is this the 32 bit version of Ubuntu 10.04?
I have seen the same thing after they replaces the 2.6.32-10 kernel with 2.6.32-11 kernel.
Ubuntu bug report here. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/510571
From what I am gathering the reason might be because they have depreciated HAL in this version.
At this point Ubuntu 10.04 on 32 bit is totally useless.
I understand that things are being worked out in Ubuntu and VirtualBox, but until they are it is not going to work properly
You can disable ACPI and it will boot but they you have not way to shut it down.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, everything involved is 32bit.

I don't want to risk my whole computer - so I'm not going to test it (for now), but will removing HAL and the new kernel screw regular ol' non-vm installs on 32 bit machines?
