Debian Lenny guest first boot throws "Kernel panic" error

Hi,
After intstalling Debian Lenny, and during the first booting, I get this error and the booting fails:

Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt
I installed using a netinst cd image (150MB), on a default settings guest machine with a 20GB vdi, and a 256 MB Ram
I used the default text installer, and only installed the "Standard System" package on the Debian Guest.
Debian ISO: debian-502a-i386-netinst.iso
Host OS: Windows XP SP3
Guest OS: Debian Lenny
VirtualBox Version: 3.0.4.r50677

Any idea which kernel you've installed? Can you install a different kernel if you try to rescue the installation?

I have this same error. The host is Debian Etch, the guest OS is ... whatever the latest net install is. (503a, I believe. I did a net install.) The VM will boot successfully about 1/3 of the time, but otherwise I get the following:

(I left the addresses off the various function calls listed). Options on the VM:
Memory: 364MB
32 bit host and guest.
Processor: 1
VT-x/AMD-V: Enabled
Nested Paging: Disabled
Display: Video Memory 8MB
3D/Remote Display: Disabled
Hard Disk: IDE Primary Slave system.vdi (Normal, 4.88GB)
Network: Adapter 1: PCnet-FAST III (bridged adapter, eth0)
(everything else not mounted or disabled)
I've got nothing on this VM, it's a fresh install. I'm trying to get *ANY* debian distribution to run as a guest, so I'm willing to experiment a little bit. There's nothing in it to save, I just need to get it working.

Why not share with us the settings that you are trying to use on the guest and also the host environment, such as the total amount of RAM, 32bit, 64 bit that sort of information is necessary to figure this out. I see some of the guest settings which is good, but are you enabling sound, USB the other items in the settings.

No sound, no usb, no serial ports. Everything on the guest is listed there.

Host ram, 1GB.
32 bit all around (host and guest)
I'm installing Etch now on that VM to see if the problem goes away, and it's a Lenny problem.

I have lenny working and installed with 256 meg and no problems. Also squeeze but it needed 768 to work properly on install, I have not turned it down yet but will later and see what the actual memory requirement is. I have not used Etch for a while so can't help you there.

Etch (kernel 2.6.18) is working perfectly. After installing I've rebooted several times and everything checks out. There's something about Lenny (judging by what I've found Googling this problem) that VirtualBox doesn't like.

For the life of me I can't think what. I have had Lenny working since it was released. And Squeeze has not presented a problem either except a few upgrades that were not ready for release, but that is what you expect on pre-released software.
