openSUSE 10.3 BETA3 refuses to run

Post by Technologov »

hi all !

openSUSE 10.3 BETA3 refuses to run on VirtualBox 1.5.0. BETA2 worked.

Host: openSUSE 10.2, Athlon XP.

When booting kernel, it says: "PANIC: CPU too old for this kernel.". Plus for some strange reason openSUSE 10.3 BETA3 chooses bigsmp instead of default kernel. There si something written about it in the "Release Notes".

Suse Beta 3 installs and run fine here under Virtualbox 1.5, WinXP SP2, AMD X2 3600.

2.6.22.5-10-default i686 kernel

The installer crashed at the end, so I had to manually create a user. But all is well.

Hi,

I have the same problem... with a Core 2 Duo chip. But after this kernel panic I restarted openSuse in Virtualbox and to my surprise the installation process continued. Until it crashed at the end of the configuration fase. Something with "DSL connection detected" and then a crash (every time).

Then after waiting a few seconds I could still log in normally but I hadn't been able to make a user (in the configuration phase) an so it didn't work.

Stmiller: How can I manually make a user in openSUSE? It has been a while since I last used it. Thanks in advance!
