vboxadd: IOCTL_VBOXGUEST_HGCM_CALL: internal ioctl failed...

Post by guardian_de »

I'm running VB 1.5.0 on Ubuntu Feisty. My guest OS is Ubuntu Gutsy - updated today and with the newest guest additions installed. The graphical login shows up, I login and instead of the gnome splash, an empty ubuntu-brown screen is shown for a few seconds. Then the text console is displayed showing the following message several times:

Code: Select all

vboxadd: IOCTL_VBOXGUEST_HGCM_CALL: internal ioctl failed rc=-2905
Maybe unrelated but the following error shows up too:

Code: Select all

mtrr: your processor doesn't support write-combining
Another 2 seconds later the graphical login comes up again.

Update: Removing the vboxadd Xsession startup script removes the ioctl error messages but the principal problem persists.

On a side note: While investigating the problem I switched to the text consoles and switching back to the graphical login hangs the virtual machine.

Any ideas what's going wrong here?

guardian_de: the first issue is fixed in the next version. Is the hang you mentioned reproducible?
