VirtualBox will not launch openSUSE 11.1
The title says it all. VirtualBox seems to have installed just fine BUT it will not start at all. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I have similar problems, OpenSUSE 11.1 won't even install here, Graphical Installer, just shows a blank screen
If I tell it to do a text-based, It'll crash before the prompts with a
"Kernel Panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interupt" error
the VBox.log is coming up with a couple of :
"00:05:41.481 Guest Log: BIOS: int13_harddisk: function 41, ELDL out of range 8B" errors

Seems like the original question from acron1 here is about OpenSuse as a host, not a guest. I had this similar probalem with 2.1.2 on openSuse11.1. In the end I tried :- login as root and start virtualbox to confirm the installation OK - worked fine from the icon in teh appplications menu. I then went back in as my user and tried from a command line. I put the error into google and found the solution was to "sudo chmod +x /var/lib/virtualbox/VirtualBox" This worked a dream. Looked like teh 2.1.2 install had only made the file executable to the owner - root.
For Lawbayly whose problem does sound to be Suse client under virtualbox, I was having the same problem 2.1.0. Work around was to switch the Suse installer to Vesa mode at the first screen. Thats assuming you get this far. I havent been able to try an install in virtualbox 2.1.2 yet to see if the update has fixed the kernel panic.
For info, I run OpenSuse 11.1 as my base OS, with VirtualBox 2.1.2 now running under that. I used the i386 versions of both.
Hardware is simple Pent4 with 500GB HD and 3GB ram.

I posted this question to the VirtualBox team in the last Webinar. Their simple answer was that it requires [VT-x/AMD-V Enabled].
I enabled it and the Virtual Machine work great

Xvm Virtualbox start problems
I had installed Xvm on OpenSuSE 11.1 and it was working wonderfully but yesterday it decided to stop working for whatever reason. I try to open it and all I get is a bouncing Xvm icon for a few moments but the program doesn't launch and I recieve no errors.
Anyone have an idea why this is happening now?
A solution would be greatly appreciated.
I just switched to linux from windows and would hate to have to resort back to windows because of a possibly simple solution that is above my level of knowlege at this moment.

Re: Xvm Virtualbox start problems
It would help if you open a terminal and start VB from there. It should be VirtualBox that you need to run. Note the uppercase characters, Linux is case sensitive.areswargod03 wrote:I had installed Xvm on OpenSuSE 11.1 and it was working wonderfully but yesterday it decided to stop working for whatever reason.
