Can't turn on bluetooth on Ubuntu guest (parent OS is Windows 11)

Post by Alex1973021 »

I installed the latest version of Ubuntu on Virtualbox. I can not turn on the bluetooth, although everything seems to be set up as it should. The slider moves to the right but does not change color, and the "Bluetooth adapter is enabled" message does not appear. Adding a device to the filter does not help. (There is another machine with Debian installed on the same laptop. I successfully configured and enabled bluetooth on it. The hardware is the same, Debian and Ubuntu are similar, but behave differently). I want to install Ubuntu on a hardware and I'm afraid I'm going to run into the problem described. Is there a solution to the problem now, in a virtual machine? Thanks for the replies and help. Please see the attached file with the results of working in the terminal (executing the commands lsusb, hciconfig, dmesg | grep -i blue)

VirtualBox VMs don't have BlueTooth. It's possible you could add one using a USB BlueTooth dongle, but note that USB devices cannot be shared with the host.

There is an "Intel..." device in the USB list on Virtualbox.
When captured (mouse click), a check mark appears and the bluetooth icon on the host computer disappears. So everything is correct. But when doing these operations on Debian and Ubuntu, we get different results. In debian, everything is fine (even I was able to connect a smartphone via bluetooth and transfer pictures). However, I have no results in Ubuntu. The slider moves to the right, but it doesn't turn on. Probably, ubuntu "does not see" the firmware or some other reason

On the Ubuntu VM, compare that you're doing everything exactly the same as on the Debian VM. Synchronize any differences in Ubuntu's setup to match Debian's setup.

If that does not help, carefully go through USB basics and troubleshooting. If you finish all the steps 1-7 and cannot get your USB device into the guest OS, carefully post the outputs of the commands in step 8 as text, not screenshots. Zip and post the logs step 8 call for, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Please note the parts about needing drivers in the VM's OS.

I went through steps 1-7. Did not help. For step 8, I post the output of the commands (step 8 ) for two machines, Debian and Ubuntu (in Debian, bluetooth works as expected, there are problems in Ubuntu):

 Try those again? You're kinda supposed to take "Your Virtual Machine" out and put the name of the VM in by itself:

VBoxManage showvminfo "Ubuntu22"
VBoxManage showvminfo "Debian11"
