Post by Priscila »

Hi,
I can´t start Ubuntu on my VM; this error appears: "Failed to send host log message"
I attach log zip file.
Thank you very much,

Failed to send host log message happens to everyone. Ignore it.

One glaring error that I see immediately is this:
00:00:06.474000 Host RAM: 16250MB (15.8GB) total, 7660MB (7.4GB) available
...
00:00:06.817463 RamSize <integer> = 0x0000000200000000 (8 589 934 592, 8.0 GiB)
00:00:06.817633 VRamSize <integer> = 0x0000000008000000 (134 217 728, 128.0 MiB)
You are allocating RAM you don't have to the VM. I would reduce the VM to 5GB (5120MB).

You should also allocate a second CPU core (not more).

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I have allocated 5 GB RAM and two cores but I still have this problem. After "Failed to send host log message", nothing else happens and Ubuntu does not start.
I have been using Ubuntu on this VM before without any problem. One thing I tried to do before this happened was to try to use an external hard drive; I don´t know if I did something wrong...

Thank you!

Then it sounds like Ubuntu itself has developed a fault.

I will move the topic to "Linux Guests". You should also probably ask on an Ubuntu forum.

I see Guest Additions turning on and the VM window's video card started properly.

Ubuntu is known to go blackscreen if there is not enough free disk space to start the desktop environment. This happens in real PCs too. The solution is to log on text-only and delete stuff until the desktop environment can start. Web-search how to fix this in an Ubuntu PC and apply the steps to the VM. Also see How to Resize a Drive
