Passphrase rejected after shared folders

Post by pendragon11 »

Hello,
I have a Ubuntu virtual machine using an encrypted vmdk file. I attempted to use the shared folder settings, to no avail, including (foolishly) at one point pointing the mount point at root. I think I broke something? I tried a reboot but am now unable to boot the machine, i just receive this error:
No key available with this passphrase.
cryptsetup: ERROR: sda5_crypt: cryptsetup failed, bad password or options?

I am certain I'm using the correct passphrase. Is there any way to repair this vmdk or recover the data? Thanks!

It's not clear to me what you're talking about: An encrypted VMDK / VDI file (VirtualBox topic) and a LUKS encrypted Linux filesystem (Linux topic) are two totally independent things. Please try to elaborate.
