XUbuntu - VMBox 7.0 - Graphic corruption

Post by Poil »

Hi,

With VBOX 7.0 my Xubuntu 22.04 VM is unusable I have too much graphic corruption (Windows 11 Host).
I had none with VBOX 6.x

Also it's very laggy. Is there anyway to rollback to previous 3D mode (without DX11) ?

(In the meanwhile, I've Switched to VMSVGA)

In the last months before the VirtualBox 7.0 BETA period, it was possible to enable the new DX11 code using a configuration setting. It could now be possible to disable the new DX11 code with it. Try VBoxManage setextradata "VM name" "VBoxInternal/Devices/vga/0/Config/VMSVGA10" "0". Note that this is undocumented (and probably unsupported) behavior.

Note - I'm finding this switch useful on my Linux Host which has poor Vulkan support (i.e. Intel HD 4000 Integrated Graphics). Without it, running my Windows 10 VM with 3D acceleration enabled resulted in some oddball graphical anomalies.

Hi,

I've tried again with VBox 7.0.4 still totally bugged.
With your setextradata "VBoxInternal/Devices/vga/0/Config/VMSVGA10" "0" it works but the refresh when moving windows is very very slow

Also glxinfo give me this ...

Code: Select all

Extended renderer info (GLX_MESA_query_renderer):
    Vendor: VMware, Inc. (0x15ad)
Device: SVGA3D; build: RELEASE; LLVM; (0x405)
    Version: 22.0.5
    Accelerated: no
    Video memory: 1MB
    Unified memory: no
    Preferred profile: compat (0x2)
    Max core profile version: 0.0
    Max compat profile version: 2.1
    Max GLES1 profile version: 1.1
    Max GLES[23] profile version: 2.0
Best regards

Same on Nvidia 2080 GTX

But I find this occur only if more than one screen is attached to the VM !

Dual screen is now working with some artifacts on Ubuntu 22.04 / VBox 7.0.14.
Not perfect but usable
