Guest: Fedora 36 - Failed to install guest additions

Post by hahu »

Hello there,

I have a fedora server 36 running in a vbox.
It fails:
Das virtuelle optische Medium C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxGuestAdditions.iso konnte nicht in das Laufwerk der Maschine Fedora-Server 36 eingelegt werden.

Could not mount the media/drive 'C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso' (VERR_PDM_MEDIA_LOCKED).

Fehlercode: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Komponente: ConsoleWrap
Interface: IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}
Callee: IMachine {85632c68-b5bb-4316-a900-5eb28d3413df}

What is wrong? Anything in my settings?
GuestAdditions.iso is whre it should be.

Thanks for reply.

Whenever you see an error code such as VERR_PDM_MEDIA_LOCKED, plug it into a Google search thusly: "VERR_PDM_MEDIA_LOCKED site:forums.virtualbox.org".

You'll find a zillion hits all telling you that it's caused because you are using a Linux guest, and there's already a CD in the drive. And it's not a real error condition, it's just something that Linux guests do: they want you to unmount the filesystem before you are allowed to eject the removable media. There is usually an option on the warning dialog to force eject.
