Fedora 36 guest locks up on all version above 6.1.30

Post by meteo219 »

Hello VirtualBox users:

I have an ongoing issue in that my Virtualbox guest: Fedora 36 will lock up after several minutes after powering up. The host system is Windows 10 Pro 21H2. I have tried 6.1.32, 6.1.34, 6.1.36 with the equivalent Extension Pack and have the same issues on all three versions. However, if I downgrade to 6.1.30 with the 6.1.30 Extension Pack, I have no lockups. I had the same results in Fedora 35. Searching for assistance on this issue, I have tried toggling on / off Controller SATA Use Host I/O Cache. I have had mix results with that setting with all three versions 6.1.32-36; but the most stable version thus far is 6.1.30.

System:
Motherboard
Memory: 32768MB (System total memory 64GB)
Boot Order: Optical, Hard Disk
Chipset: PIIX (AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor 3.60 GHz)
Pointing Device: USB Tablet
Extended Features: Enable I/O APIC

Processor
4 CPUs
Execution Cap: 100%
Extended Features: Enable PAE/Nx

Acceleration
Paravirtualization Interface: KVM

Storage:
Controller: IDE Use Host I/O Cache on
IDE Primary Device: VBoxGuestAdditions.iso

Controller: SATA Use Host I/O Cache on
SATA 0 SSD - Sold-state Drive on
SATA 1 HDD

Network:
Bridged Adapter

Any thoughts? I am using the latest Fedora 36 kernel: Linux fedora 5.19.6-200.fc36.x86_64 but the issue doesn't seem to kernel related; instead it seems to be virtualbox software related. Let me know if there is anything that I can provide to help resolve this issue.

Sincerely,

Jeff

Make sure you don't have any power saving steps enabled in the VM.

In my Fedora VM:
Power Mode is set to Balanced
Power Saving Options:
Screen Blank: Never
Automatic Suspend: Off
