The compatible for Virtualbox 6.1.34 and Ubuntu 22.04

Post by Royee »

Hi, there
Recently I was installing Ubuntu 22.04 within Virtualbox 6.1.34, but it blocks me over 2 days. The issues are listed below:
1. When the new version has been installed, it will get stuck on the booting logo in many times;
2. When play with this new version, the system will get stuck in many times;

Is there any advices on that?

Thanks,
Tommy

Provide a VM log file. Make sure the VM is fully shut down, then right click it in the manager UI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (no other file) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

You have Hyper-v enabled.
00:00:03.310092 HM: HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM: VT-x is not available
00:00:03.359414 NEM: info: Found optional import WinHvPlatform.dll!WHvQueryGpaRangeDirtyBitmap.
00:00:03.359474 NEM: WHvCapabilityCodeHypervisorPresent is TRUE, so this might work...
See HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM (Hyper-V is active).

In other notes, I don't think you can count on 8GB RAM being available on your host. I would reduce to 6GB RAM allocated to the VM.

I would increase the CPU allocation to 2 cores (not more).

Perhaps enable 3D acceleration for faster graphics.

p.s. In future when I ask for "no other file", I would prefer that you don't translate that to "shower me with every log file in the vicinity!".

Thank you for your kindly reminder, it really works!

Another question:
How many memory and CPU cores should I set in my VB? Is there any background?

The amount of RAM has to be a fair compromise between what the guest needs and the host can afford. An unfair compromise results in poor performance or instability: anyway people forget that VirtualBox is a host app, and all those resources given to the guest OS is for the guest OS to assign to guest apps, it doesn't help VM simulation performance in the slightest.

CPU cores is nearly always 2. Extra cores on most people's PCs is really just a marketing scam, as they sit idle most of the time. However a VM, unlike a physical PC, can't just ignore a CPU core, the context sometimes has to be saved and restored. This management is pure overhead if the core isn't being used for something productive.

Despite you lack of mention, I hope you disabled Hyper-v too.
