I've been trying to set up a Debian (11.3.0) guest in virtualbox 6.1.34. I'm on W10 build 19044. I have given it plenty of resources (12GB RAM, 6 CPUs), but for some reason I still face problems where it either hangs on boot (black screen with underscore), or it reaches what would be the login screen but it only shows the background grey colour (no login). In previous installs it would occasionally, but it's all a bit pointless if I can't trust it to work when I run it. I don't know how else to describe this, but I can get some logs if someone can take a look?
I was previously trying and failing to fix another issue, where it was running incredibly slowly whenever I opened firefox. I thought just deleting and recreating it would help but this keeps on happening now. I have made sure hyper-V is not active, but it just seems really unstable.

Please provide a VM log file. Make sure the VM is fully shut down, then right click it in the manager UI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (no other file) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

Thanks! I've attached it here.mpack wrote:Please provide a VM log file. Make sure the VM is fully shut down, then right click it in the manager UI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (no other file) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.
Since posting it I managed to get in, but then I was having issues with firefox hanging/crashing (as before). I have a feeling the issues might be related since all of this works fine on a different host machine. Hopefully you see something I can try out.

Re: Debian is not working consistently in vbox
You have Hyper-v enabled on the host.
See HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM (Hyper-V is active).00:00:02.679321 HM: HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM: VT-x is not available
00:00:02.692771 NEM: info: Found optional import WinHvPlatform.dll!WHvQueryGpaRangeDirtyBitmap.
00:00:02.692828 NEM: WHvCapabilityCodeHypervisorPresent is TRUE, so this might work...

Ah of course, so windows shows me that it is off when it is in fact still on. Awesome.
Thanks for the link, all seems to be functioning as intended now!
