Raw Partition Access

Post by zimbodel »

I have Virtualbox running on a Linux Host

There are several other Linux Distros in different partitions from the Linux Host.

Is it possible to boot the Distros installed in the partitions with Virtualbox ?

It could be possible. Virtualbox has Raw Disk Access, you can read up on it in the manual, https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch09.html#rawdisk. This is an experts-only feature, as you run a risk of hosing your host PC if you do it wrong, so we don't tell folks how to do it.

Thats neat thanks and seemingly exactly what I was looking for. Seems like you create sort of a small fake virtual disk that acts as a bootstrap to load the partition OS.

This functionality is crucial as it happens all the time I have to access and work on a different partition on the same server and rebooting is REALLY not an option.

I will try it and hope it works.

Thanks a lot !
