black screen after moving vdi file

Post by Marco_MN »

Hi,

I needed to move the vdi file of a kubuntu 18.04 guest on a windows 7 host (both 64bit)

I first removed the storage attachment from the VM settings, then I moved the vdi file from the virtualk media manager, and then added again the storage attachment int he VM settings. However, now when I launch the machine I obtain a black screen. The VM is apparently running but I cannot do anything. The log is attached, however I obtain the message below during start-up so it is likely icomplete:

I saw previous post about this problem being caused by low video memory assignment or machine declared as 32bit rather than 64bit. However the solution proposed there do not seem to apply to my case (see screenshot below).

I really do not know what toi do but cannot afford to loose that machine. I have a backup vdi file but again when I try to attach it to the VM I only obtain a black screen.

Many thanks in advance for the help

(I use VirtualBox 6.1.4)

Moving a VDI may stop the VM from running. It cannot be responsible for errors inside a running VM.
