Windows 10 Host Black Screen any Linux Distro
Windows 10 Host Black Screen any Linux Distro
Greetings,
I just bought a new Dell precision desktop 7750 with NVME. I had no problems on my other computer but on this one, each time I try to install "any" linux distribution, It will prompt me with the first login, then it just stays black after that. Could it be a problem with my NVME disk?
I have attached my log file.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

No, it's the host OS, Windows 10. Hyper-V is enabled and needs to be disabled. See HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM (Hyper-V is active).Muzikman wrote:Could it be a problem with my NVME disk?

Actually, I tried it with and without hyper-v installed. The log file contains multiple starts with and without.

Per the linked tutorial (which you should read... ) a full host shut-down is necessary to clear Hyper-V. Thus you couldn't have multiple runs of the OS in the same log if you really turned off Hyper-V. The logs would be broken up into separate files.

I just did a complete shutdown. Uninstalled and reinstalled VirtualBox. I have three log files vboxhardening.log, vbox.log.1 and vbox.log which I have attached. Do you need the other ones?
All of my virtualization is enabled in my BIOS except for something called "Trusted Execution."

The posted log is the hardening log, which has an exit code of 0, so no hardening troubles.
Did you read the tutorial? There is a lot more in it than "shut down the computer".
I repeat, Did you read the tutorial?

Nevermind. I followed the instructions in the link you posted and it works. I guess it was running even though I uninstalled it.
Sorry for being hard headed. Thanks for your help

Great! Glad things worked, and you're up and running!

Yes, it worked fine; after following your directions. This machine came with Win 10 Pro. My other had the Home edition. There isn't a hyper-v package in the Home edition, I don't think so anyway.
I wish windows would go away.

Most of Hyper-V is in Home. The tutorial covers that, too.Muzikman wrote:There isn't a hyper-v package in the Home edition,

Weird because I never had this problem or any other with VB.

I can assure you that there is nothing magical happening here. If Hyper-v was enabled then it's because you or Windows selected a feature that implicitly enables Hyper-v, as is discussed in the FAQ.
