Re: virtualbox 7.0.8 file dragging doesn't work
Start the VM from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the VM from within the VM's OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.
Right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show in Explorer/Finder/File Manager. In the "Logs" subfolder, zip the VM's "vbox.log", and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab. (Configure your host OS to show all extensions so you can find the "vbox.log", not "vbox.log.1", etc.)

Re: virtualbox 7.0.8 file dragging doesn't work
I know that Drag-n-Drop does have glitches at times. What host folder and guest folder are you dragging from and to, and is it host to guest or guest to host?
Re: virtualbox 7.0.8 file dragging doesn't work
works from host to guest, but does not work from guest to host

Re: virtualbox 7.0.8 file dragging doesn't work
I find it rather interesting that people only read (or at least respond to) the last question asked them and ignore everything else before.
Re: virtualbox 7.0.8 file dragging doesn't work

Re: virtualbox 7.0.8 file dragging doesn't work
Thanks for the info. Your VM's settings are Drag-n-drop Bidirectional. Since host-to-guest works, it appears that Drag-n-drop is set up. I am not sure what else to do. A forum guru may weigh in.
Meanwhile, Virtualbox Shared Folders are much more reliable.

Re: virtualbox 7.0.8 file dragging doesn't work
drag-n-drop is set on bidirectional and virtualbox shared folders it does not work

Re: virtualbox 7.0.8 file dragging doesn't work
I have nothing else on the problem with Drag-n-drop. If you want to troubleshoot the Virtualbox Shared Folders problem, please start a new topic with a new zipped & posted vbox.log. Also see https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04. ... redfolders, in case something is not set up correctly.

Re: virtualbox 7.0.8 file dragging doesn't work
The Log provided shows:
For me, the Oracle 7.0.8 Guest Additions work fine with Debian/Ubuntu Linux derivatives.
i.e. an 'old' Ubuntu build of the Guest Additions from the Ubuntu repositories, not an original Oracle provided version. Other entries related to Guest Additions also suggest that features normally supported by Guest Additions aren't fully functional, which may be down to a conflict with VirtualBox 7.0.8, or an issue with 6.1.38 that may have been corrected in a later version.00:00:22.573642 VMMDev: Guest Additions information report: Version 6.1.38 r153438 '6.1.38_Ubuntu'

Re: virtualbox 7.0.8 file dragging doesn't work
Well, it's rather the situation of a user ignoring the (non-obvious) error messages during the GA installation (*). If you look more closely, the OP installed VirtualBox 7.0.8, the VirtualBox Extension Pack 7.0.6 and the VirtualBox Guest Additions (GA) 7.0.6 (look for "VBoxService").multiOS wrote:'old' Ubuntu build of the Guest Additions from the Ubuntu repositories, not an original Oracle provided version.
(*) This is another example of reading only the last sentence of a bunch of text.

@nuv4:
See 4.2.2.1. Installing the Linux Guest Additions.

Re: virtualbox 7.0.8 file dragging doesn't work
fth0, I wonder if you'd mind explaining this again, please. I don't think I grasped it last time.
If "Guest Additions information report" and "VBoxService" versions don't match, is this an indication of mismatched kernel headers requiring a purge and reinstall of prerequisites and Guest Additions? I seem to remember you may have mentioned that mismatched version numbers wasn't necessarily a problem, but I may not remember correctly? (O maybe we were discussing Virtualbox on the host last time?)nuv4's log wrote:00:00:22.573642 VMMDev: Guest Additions information report: Version 6.1.38 r153438 '6.1.38_Ubuntu'
