When will VirtualBox fully support Mac OS Sierra v10.12.x?

Post by ant »

The current v5.1.18 only goes up to El Capitan v10.11.x. I read that one could use El Capitan v10.11.x to install Sierra, but I think that is unsupported. I also read that v10.12.4 has clean install issues and to use v10.12.3 instead. I am going to assume Sierra isn't fully supported yet.

Thank you in advance. :)

In fact macOS Sierra is supported by VirtualBox 5.1.20 even if not explicitly mentioned. If you have problems with Sierra, open separate topics.

@frank
Well, if you insist... ;)
#16644: Installation of clean OSX 10.12.4 fails. Just a clean install, not an upgrade.

Oh I'm sorry. Actually I was talking about running VBox on a Sierra host but not as guest. My fault, I should have looked at the forum title.
At the moment we don't test Mac OS X guests. Thanks for the pointer to the ticket!

Thanks all. Is there a reason why Mac OS X guests aren't tested? Lack of manpower?

Manpower? Interest? Motivation? You could call it many things. That's why we, the volunteers, are trying our best to test things out. It's a common effort after all. We notice and notify (kindly) the developers, and if the developers (or us) can fix it, it will work.
