Cloned Mac HD As Guest

Post by Nicksname »

I cloned my old Mac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to an external drive. It is fully bootable on my old MacBook Pro but not on my new MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015). I would like to boot it as a guest with Virtual Box 5.1.14 and OS X Sierra 10.12.13. I searched and found no guide for setting this up. I have tried "raw hard disk access" but keep getting errors and I am not even sure this the right way to do it.

I suggest that you use one of the following methods
  • restore (DiskUtility) the OS X image onto a Virtual Hard Drive (a .vdi file)
  • clone the OS X image onto a Virtual Hard Drive (a .vdi file)
You will need to
  1. create a .vdi file
  2. mount it on/in OS X
  3. restore or clone onto it
  4. UNMOUNT it
refer to Virtual Disk Mounting tools
