Could be that Tiger does not support SATA, only IDE. Back in 2005, IDE was considered 'standard'.

mac os sierra - version 10.12.3

Mac Book Air - 13inch - early 2015

Virtual Box 5.1.22

Tiger 4.3 Install DVD

I am very new to this. It looks like that the users on this forum are highly skilled experts. If i could get a step by step advice how to install OS Tiger on Virtual Box I would be very thankful.

This is relating to Okiuss RECIPE viewtopic.php?f=22&t=80993#p381106.

I tried to follow his steps till his command lines. After I pasted these into terminal it says it can't find ROSINANTE on Macbook-air.I replaced his MacBookPro3,1 in the end of the second line with Macbook-air.

Code: Select all

VBoxManage modifyvm ROSINANTE --cpuidset 00000000 00000001 756e6547 6c65746e 49656e69
VBoxManage setextradata ROSINANTE VBoxInternal/Devices/efi/0/Config/DmiSystemProduct Macbook-air
VBoxManage setextradata ROSINANTE VBoxInternal/Devices/smc/0/Config/GetKeyFromRealSMC 1
VBoxManage setextradata ROSINANTE VBoxInternal2/EfiGopMode 4
Also I get the NO BOOTABLE MEDIUM FOUND message when I try run VM - I do have the Tiger Intel 4.10 Install DVD 1 inserted. I am sure i still do something wrong. If someone could help me with this I would be more than thankful.

My INFO:
mac os sierra - version 10.12.3

@'Lothar Loy'
  1. Delete your VM, including the files. It's not like you've got something to lose...
  2. Create a new VM with the defaults for a "Mac OS X (64-bit)". Change nothing.
  3. Follow a "start the VM from cold-boot" / "observe error" / "shutdown the VM" cycle.
  4. With the VM shut down completely (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  5. Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response (see the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form).
Also, I'd like to know where you got your 10.4.11 DVDs from. Did they come with your computer? Did you get them online? Did you buy them? Do they have a build number on them? They should, so could you please post it?
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Start the VM Cold Boot. I did

Observe Error , png is in VBOX.zip, A POP UP with a Guru logo says a critical error has occurred and in the end it asks to press OK to power off the machine.
I did.

After SHUTDOWN THE VM (power off) the App Quits , a very long report log pops up stating it will be sent to Apple automatically.
REOPEN no problem. I did

I'm not so sure if these will work... As the warning on eBay says:
THESE ARE RESTORE DISKS ONLY. THEY WILL ONLY WORK IF YOUR SYSTEM ORIGINALLY CAME WITH 10.4.10 WHEN IT WAS NEW. THESE ARE NOT RETAIL OR UPGRADE OS DISKS. VISIT THE WEBSITE LISTED ABOVE AND ENTER YOUR SERIAL NUMBER, THEN CLICK ON THE "DETAILS" TAB. ALL OF YOUR MAC'S INFORMATION WILL BE LISTED, MAKE SURE THAT THE "ORIGINAL OS", MACHINE ID, AND MODEL ARE AN EXACT MATCH TO THE SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS LISTED HERE. IF THEY ARE, IT WILL WORK.
Create a new VM with the "Mac OS X (64 bit)" template (it's not like you have anything to lose). Do not change anything! Open a Terminal and issue the command:
  • VBoxManage modifyvm "<VM name>" --cpu-profile "Intel Xeon X5482 3.20GHz"
Cross your fingers and start the VM. When asked for a DVD, point them to the installation DVD.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

Thank You Socratis

I am pretty new to all this so I have one more question.
When I create a new VM from scratch I use all the settings as they are. right?
I just follow the wizard's tasks, then put in the command into a terminal ,then start the VM.

Yes. Exactly. After the wizard is done, enter the command in the Terminal.

The VM you're trying to alter is not named "Rosinante". You need to put the correct VM name. For guidance, use the command:
  • VBoxManage list vms

00:00:07.260762 Name <string> = "ROSINANTE" (cb=10)

Not sure about Mac's but since they are built on BSD The case should matter.
