I tested 5.1.4 on 10.10.5 host with 10.11 / 10.12beta (host is a Mid 2014 retina MacBookPro 15'') and on a 10.10.5 host (early 2011 MBP 15'') with 10.6.8, all on ICH9 chipset emulation, all have sound input problems. So I filed https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/15678
In that ticket I got the advice to try testing Version 5.1.5 r110346 (Qt5.5.1) and the sound input works somewhat now. But after a while the sound input stops working / starts to act strange, then it helps to freeze and unfreeze the machine (save the machine state). Then it starts working again. I can provide the log again if that is needed.
Anybody here experiencing the same behavior?

There is a newer build, 5.1.5 r110354 (https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Testbuilds). See if that changes the situation. They're actively working on the audio front, so keep your eyes open.
