The install media boots OK, and I get an installer, the installer runs OK without errors then reboots. At reboot the VM crashes. From the VM defaults, I raised display video memory to 128, but the problem remains. I can't tell what the problem is from the log.
00:00:02.999094 emR3Debug: rc=VINF_EM_TRIPLE_FAULT
00:00:04.004104 Changing the VM state from 'RUNNING' to 'GURU_MEDITATION'
That triple fault message has a bunch of bugs that are two years old and should be fixed, doesn't seem applicable to hardware that works OK when booting the ISO but then fails when booting installed.

Re: yosemite installs OK, but gurumediation postinstall
You are overcommitting RAM: trying reducing the RAM assignment to the guest to 1536MB, reduce the VRAM to 64MB.
Re: yosemite installs OK, but gurumediation postinstall
The same problem and error happens with those settings. It even happens if I try to boot recovery, and yet I can boot the install ISO despite that being basically the same thing as boot recovery.
Re: yosemite installs OK, but gurumediation postinstall
I went ahead and filed a bug.
