Installing SL Server Guest on Mac Mini Server

Post by mike-h30 »

I ordered a Mac Mini server and plan to run SL Server as a guest with Virtual Box on a SL Server host. Due to the lack of optical drive on the Mac Mini Server, does anyone have a suggestion on how I should install SL Server as a guest? Should I use Apple's Remote Disc utility to borrow the optical drive from my iMac? I am not even sure if Virtual Box will see the disc image via that method. Or do I need to buy the external super drive? Thanks.

You can also create an ISO of the install disc and use that in VB. Create it on your iMac, then transfer it through USB, network, whatever to the Mac Mini.

Thanks for the tip!

I wasn't sure how easy that was to do with OSX. I have seen some posts in other forums where people were not able to make an installable image of OSX. Perhaps they were trying to make an image on non Mac hardware. Anyways, I am going to give that a shot. I am looking forward to running Virtual Box on my Mini Server.

I confirmed that a retail or stand alone copy of SL Server is necessary to create a guest. My copy is a software/hardware bundle that shipped with my Mac Mini server. See this post for more details.
