Read this before upgrading to VB3.2.4
It seems that there is problem in VB3.2.4's EFI (at least 3 people have reported this problems).
After upgrading to VB3.2.4, SL VM will hang after displaying "Loading System\Library\Caches\com.apple.kext.caches\Startup\Extensions.mkext" and followed by almost one full line of dots.
For details, please see:

I think I have got the same error. Since Updating VBox to 2.2.4 my Snow Leopard VM doesn't boot anymore:

Confirmed. This is a 3.2.4 regression. The upload of fixed packages is currently in progress (build 62467).

The new build is already available.
I have tested VirtualBox-3.2.4-62467-Win.exe and it works fine so far.
My SL VM can boot up normally.

New build works fine for me on SnowLeopard running SnowLeopard

Re: Read this before upgrading to VB3.2.4
This bug was actually in 3.2.2 as well (I noticed it, but hadn't gotten around to reporting it yet), but the updated 3.2.4 build seems to work fine again.

Re: Read this before upgrading to VB3.2.4
Also seeing it hang on a fresh install of non-server version of SL 10.6.3.
I am trying to load SL from an ISO. VB starts and the ISO starts install properly.... but it hangs on extensions.mkext.
Host platform is Windows 7.
Used both VB 3.2.4.62467 and VB 3.2.0.61806.
VM is using VB defaults; hardware is AMD chipset that supports hardware virtualizations.
Start screen:
boot file path ... boot.efi
loading 'mach_kernel'....
root device....
loading drivers....
loading system\library\caches\com.apple.kext.caches\startup\extensions.mkext
..............................................................................
............................... (hangs here)
Any ideas appreciated.

@vbbill,
You need to read http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=31104
It more then likely will not work as it is not the OSX server and I don't think that MAC hardware uses AMD but in either case that more then likely is the problem.

Re: Read this before upgrading to VB3.2.4
Thanks Perry.
Probably the AMD chipset is not compatible.
And yes, clearly a license violation.... but as a PC tech, this is the best way we can learn if the MAC OS is here to stay. I cannot buy a MACbook, just to learn my way around a MAC. VB is a perfect use of this....MAC would run terrible on it, which is fine: perfect for learning, but if one wants performance, buy a real MAC.

Re: Read this before upgrading to VB3.2.4
This was a subtle regression related to some OSX guests are picky to PCI slots assignments to devices (in this case LPC).
Is fixed on trunk and will be fixed in next maintenance release too.

I also recieved this error when trying to update from 10.5.something (think it was 3) to 10.5.8 when I was waiting on my 10.6.3 disc to arrive.Niehztog wrote:I think I have got the same error. Since Updating VBox to 2.2.4 my Snow Leopard VM doesn't boot anymore:
Though I didn't think it was a virutalbox issue at the time and have since got a retail 10.6.3 disc working fine in VB though I haven't tried updating to 10.6.4.
