Unable to Boot from DVD/ISO (Host=10.5, Guest=10.6 64bit)

Post by LowTech »

Hi,
my system is a MacBook early 2008 (Core2Duo) running OSX 10.5.8 and VB 3.2.0 final.

When I try to install a VB guest with OSX 10.6 there is the following issue:

- the guest does NOT boot from the original SL-DVD or ISO when Mac OSX 64-bit was choosen for the system version while creating a new VM. Only an empty black screen with no boot messages happens for minutes with high cpu load. :(

- but, the guest does boot and install from DVD/ISO when the Mac OSX system version (left on default) was selected for the new VM! :D

All the best,
Max

I actually have the exact opposite issue, if it's set to "Mac OS X" I get the black screen and no boot but if I set it to "Mac OS X (64-bit)" then everything works as expected. This is on a MacBook Pro 6,2 w/ 10.6.3 and using the MacBook Pro installation media.

Unable to Boot

Same issue on new Xserve - trying to install SL on SL 10.6.1 - Mac OS X (64bit) selected - gives blank screen. Same with ISO.

Running with Mac OS X selected (i.e. the default - not 64 bit) seems to work. During boot, the message "64 bit mode enabled" appears.

I will proceed and see whether 64 bit mode is indeed running within the Guest and get back to you all.

Despite not choosing (not being able to choose) Mac OS (64bit) the guest running Snow Leopard runs as 64bit.
