Re: Mac OS X guest sound support driver UPDATE [See Attachment]
Ok I just remembered something: I boot 64-Bit by default. Not x86. So it does work in 64bit mode just really bad.
All that crackling and stuff happens there.
So in i386 mode it's crackling but mostly just cuts in, and stays out a lot in Garageband.
Still have the balance issue.

Re: Discuss: Mac OS X guest sound support driver
It's being reported in the osx86 scene that Virtual Box 3.2.8 fixed audio -- returning full stereo sound without glitches?
I have yet to test this but I'm curious about other people's findings here...

Been away so I haven't checked yet, I'll give it a whirl and see what happens.junkinternetmail wrote:It's being reported in the osx86 scene that Virtual Box 3.2.8 fixed audio -- returning full stereo sound without glitches?

Re: Discuss: Mac OS X guest sound support driver
I tested this out and it appears to be remarkably better. About as good as one could hope from a VM using emulation...

Re: Discuss: Mac OS X guest sound support driver
I noticed that there wasn't any sound today and found this thread. I can confirm that sound does not work by default install using vb3.2.8.
System:Preferences:Sound shows NO Output and NO Input devices.
Does this new sound drive get installed in the guest or in the OSX host system? Sorry for the stupid question, but I'm a newbie and don't have much of a clue.

Re: Discuss: Mac OS X guest sound support driver
Anyone seeing this after applying the audio fix?
Im running 3.2.8 on Win7 64bit. Quad Core AMD Phenom
realtek HD audio driver 6.0.1.5859 installed in win7
Using hazard osx86 iso. Sound works fine when virtualizing any linux distro.
I can live with sound in one channel .. any ideas?

Re: Discuss: Mac OS X guest sound support driver
Why would you use a distro?
This works with a retail copy of the OS.

My retail disc wont boot in the vm. I am following the instructions at lifehacker. They suggested the hazzard osx86 iso.

Re: Discuss: Mac OS X guest sound support driver
I hope your guide wasn't written by the same failbot who writes all the guides on lifehacker.
You need a retail 10.6 or 10.6.3.
Then you need a nawcom bootcd
http://www.mediafire.com/file/a97la7sbu ... CD.iso.zip
OR
empire efi boot cd.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/vdttdy21m ... 085_R2.zip
That is all.
Takwing here has written a guide that is so much better than some jackoff advocating the use of distros.
http://www.takwing.idv.hk/tech/virtual/ ... e_v11.html
Granted, takwing's guide is a bit outdated but the principles all still apply.

Thanks for the constructive advice rather than just calling me a noob. I give it a go.

Re: Discuss: Mac OS X guest sound support driver
Ok so I tested it using vb 3.2.8 and got some strange results. Did not work at all under arch=i386 mode, which from what I understand it forces it into x86 mode by doing that, and for me the default bootup is x64, but I can't get my "About this Mac" to work to verify for certain.
It does work under x64 mode however, just it's almost as bad as before, except it cuts out more often when the page or app is not in focus, and is of a higher pitch with no low end whatsoever. It's really a step back in my opinion, seeing as it isn't working now in one mode but does work in another, just not as good as it did before. Aside from that I don't have much to share unfortunately.

Re: Discuss: Mac OS X guest sound support driver
Hi,
I installed the driver on an OSX 10.6 in a PUEL VirtualBox 3.2.8 on Gentoo (32bit).
It works fine but does not recognize headphones if attached. The sound is always played via the MacBookPro's internal speakers (which sucks of course ).

Update
Now it works. It seems to me misconfiguration in the host OS was the cause.
But I have the “one channel only” problem, too.
When balance is centered, the right channel is at 100% (or whatever is the loudest, I get) and the left channel is muted.
When balance is faded to the right, the left channel is between 0 and 100% (depends on the slider's position) and the right channel is muted.
When balance is faded to the left, it's vice versa.
