I think you can install VB in liveCD but after restart there won't be VB anymore, correct me if I'm wrong.
And yes, you need to mount your windows partition to save the .vdi file.

But I think the main problem is that your i5 cpu is not compactible with SL.

I can run Leopard under VB on my i5 physical machine. Why can't I run SL under VB on my i5 machine?
Probably this is because some experts have replace the kernel in Leopard but this has not been done for SL.
Am I correct??

So, I can only play with Leopard now.....
Can you help me how can I access my files under the Windows' partition?

The Retail SL DVD has only one default vanilla kernel! T
takwing wrote: I have tried Empire EFI.iso (both legacy, v108, 1085), that does not work.
But may ask "how should I start booting the VM by using Empire EFI.iso?
What I did is:
- startup the vm with the iso file
- I can see 2 icons, one for Empire ISO, one for my SL hdd.
- I simply selection that hdd icon and press Enter
- I have also tried adding the boot option "-v cpus=1"

Why I am asking this is that I cannot use that method to boot up my Leopard hdd also (which can boot by itself).

I can see that there are people using a current build of v3.1.5.... but I just wonder if I can get a Windows version of it.
If you have pached your VB, then you don't need 3.1.51

When you see those 2 icons: pres Devices -> CD/DVD devices -> Select your SL DVD ISO and press F5!!! Then select Mac OS X install DVD from those icons!!!

I tried the patch (I just dropped the files in the root of my virtualbox folder) but empireefi still just shows some white text that I can't make out because the background is white. I can only see a little when it goes across Vader's body. Which version of empireefi are you using? I am using v108. I also tried doing the create vdi in ubuntu then transfer the file but I have a 64 bit ubuntu that won't open the deb file you linked to. Do you have any 64 bit versions or should I just suck it up and compile it myself?

i have empire EFI v1.085. you have to press a key when the text stops.

I know just 32bit VB, so you just will have to compile 64bit yourself.

Mac OS X as guest on Mac OS X host?

Post by sl.ider »

I've been following the thread "Mac OS X as guest" closely, but they talk about Ubuntu or Windows as host.
What about Mac OS X as host?

I've tried the EmpireEFI.iso, but I'm stuck at the APIC message 0x11 instead of 0x14. I've tried a patched Leopard instal dvd, but didn't got very far.

Shouldn't it be "easier" to have Mac OS X as guest on the same host?

wait for the next VB release. you won't get through APIC message unless you have a patched VB to support SSSE3 & 0x14. Or you can compile by yourself ;)

Greate work. I compile the newest OSE version and it works like notbad described. Thanks for the information.

A little bit nasty is the mouse catch mode.

Next thing to solve is to have access from MacOS to the local file system (like shared folder).
I think I have to setup something like a samba share. Has anyone an idea?

would it be possible for you to send the compiled OSE version to me? (I don't know how to get the source and compile it)

@ takwing:
I'm working on it. If I get it I'll upload it to Mediafire. I compiled for Ubuntu in Ubuntu but I'm trying to figure out how to compile for Windows in Ubuntu. It just automatically builds a linux version. Setting up a Windows build environment is ridiculously involved. He might have compiled a linux version anyways; he didn't say.

Does anyone know what I have to do to tell it to build a Windows version instead of Linux?

As far as I know, it is impossible to compile a Windows version on Linux. You have to compile it on Windows, as explained in the build instructions:

Ok, thanks. Crap. Where am I supposed to get all those old versions of programs required? I mean visual studio 2003 or 2005. Seriously? They don't even mention Windows 7; only xp and Vista. The link they provide for ddk just liinks to wdk. The instructions woefully need to be updated. Sigh...I'll see what I can do. Seriously, thanks though.

[My latest update:]
There is no need to answer my question anymore.
Network works in my Leopard now!
What I have done are:
- config my vm to use Intel PRO/1000 T Server (using Bridged adapter mode)
- I have also added the folowing lines:
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/Devices/e1000f/0/Trusted" value="integer:1"/>
<ExtraDataItem name="VBoxInternal/PDM/Devices/PcExt/Path" value="VBoxDD3"/>
- I have patched my VB with Black Trinitrons patches... which was done earlier while trying to install SL.

[another update]
- USB works....
- I tried to run the software update.... but leopard cannot boot up successfully after reboot...
