OSX Ventura 13.0.1 Can't attach USB device

Post by Sethach »

I have successfully upgraded to virtualbox7, but I am facing problems to attach my USB device to the Windows 7 Guest system. It was running before.
It showed up as a USB drive, at is used as a licence dongle for the ETS5 Software.

I followed the thread USB basics and troubleshooting and below and as attachment you can find the items from #8: Asking for help
I hope the problem can be solved

This will likely be the same issue as reported in ticket: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/21218

The latest reply from the devs is: "This is currently under investigation and the problem description was passed to Apple, waiting for a response from them. "

The funny thing is, if I start virtualbox with sudo, the USB device will be attached to the windows guest system. But it is not recognized as the device as it was before.
And after this root is the owner of the guest system, and it will not start with the standard user. With chown this can be fixed.

Running VirtualBox (or any other GUI application) is really not a good idea if you value your system. Far too many cracks that could let bad guys in, and of course total messing up of file permissions. At this stage I think the only option is patience, until the VirtualBox developers can come up with a workaround.

I found another related post which said to run VB as root and: Go to your guest OS settings->Ports->USB and select "USB 3.0 (xHCI)"
That worked and I get USB connectivity
