Unable to install Mac OS X Server 10.6.3 on Mac OS 11.6 host.
Unable to install Mac OS X Server 10.6.3 on Mac OS 11.6 host.
Running VirtualBox 6.1.28 on MacBook Pro 15" mid 2015 Big Sur 11.6.
I have succeed installing and running Windows 10 in VitualBox without any problem but when trying to install a second virtual machine with Mac OS X Server 10.6.3 in VirtualBox I get the following error message:
Configuration error: Querying "DeviceKey" as a string failed (VERR_CFGM_NOT_ENOUGH_SPACE).
Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component:
ConsoleWrap
Interface:
IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}
```
I have reinstalled VirtualBox, reinstalled the right Extension Pack, Tried different locations for the Mac OS X Server ISO.dmg file, checked that VirtualBox has full access to files.
What went wrong?
Log file added.
Re: Unable to install Mac OS X Server 10.6.3 on Mac OS 11.6 host.
The log says:
00:00:02.119829 VMSetError: Configuration error: Querying "DeviceKey" as a string failed
00:00:02.119843 PDM: Failed to construct 'smc'/0! VERR_CFGM_NOT_ENOUGH_SPACE (-2109) - The specified string / bytes buffer was to small. Specify a larger one and retry.
How can I specify a larger one?
Recreate the VM, and this time, do not use any Hackintosh-related commands.
Re: Unable to install Mac OS X Server 10.6.3 on Mac OS 11.6 host.
I dont understand. I have tried to recreated the VM several times and not used any special commands.
I have given the machine 4 GB of RAM, I have given the machine 128 Mb for the display, I have disabled audio as this seems to be a problem sometimes.
But otherwise just a strait forward installation. The installation quits just after start with the above message.
As far as I have understood the Mac OS X Servers 10.6.3 should work in VirtualBox on Mac with out problems or special commands during creation.
Re: Unable to install Mac OS X Server 10.6.3 on Mac OS 11.6 host.
I can add OS Windows 7 but not MacOS X 10.10 downloaded from Apple. Seems to be a problem with the MacOS installation only. Have I misunderstood? Do I need to convert the downloaded file? The original OS X Server 10.6.3 was saved with Disk Utility to the desktop before trying to install.
Re: Unable to install Mac OS X Server 10.6.3 on Mac OS 11.6 host.
The MacOS X 10.6-2021-10-25-21-02-34.log file exhibits settings in the VM configuration that were most probably not created by VirtualBox itself, because that would be illegal in countries where Apple's licensing agreements are legal. How did you create the VM configuration? If you've copied the MacOS X 10.6.vbox file from somewhere else, you perhaps should question the source.
Re: Unable to install Mac OS X Server 10.6.3 on Mac OS 11.6 host.
The Mac OS X Server is from my own original DVD with the OS. Has worked earlier in Parallels but I wanted now to use VirtualBox instead to avoid cost for upgrading Parallels.
Re: Unable to install Mac OS X Server 10.6.3 on Mac OS 11.6 host.
How does that answer my question? I'm not asking how you installed the OS inside the VM, but how you created the VM before doing the installation. To make it easier: Please post a zip file containing the MacOS X 10.6.vbox file.
Re: Unable to install Mac OS X Server 10.6.3 on Mac OS 11.6 host.
Here is the file. Its only 3K. This is after I.ve tried to unsuccessfully install Mac OS X Server.
Re: Unable to install Mac OS X Server 10.6.3 on Mac OS 11.6 host.
This VM (Mac OS X Server.vbox file) is clean. When you run it, you cannot get the error from your initial post AFAICS. If you think that this is not true and want to prove it, remove all macOS VMs from the VirtualBox Manager (*), create a new VM, start the VM, reproduce the error, shut down the VM, and post a zip file containing both the .vbox file and the VBox.log file that belong together.
(*) If you select the option to keep the files during removal, you can later re-add them with double-clicking the .vbox files.
Generally speaking, you need special installation images (*.dmg) to install macOS in a VirtualBox VM, not the images that are provided by Apple. See [HowTo] Create OSX ISO from the OSX Install app for details.
Re: Unable to install Mac OS X Server 10.6.3 on Mac OS 11.6 host.
Thanks for trying to help!
I deleted the old machine. Created a new, And when trying to install the guest OS I get the same message as above.
As far as I can read in the file you mentioned it concerns the OS from 10.7-15. I'm trying to install 10.6.3.
What do I need to do with the dmg file for it to work if that's the problem?
Lars
Re: Unable to install Mac OS X Server 10.6.3 on Mac OS 11.6 host.
Thanks for trying again and providing the files. Looking at them "again" made me realize my mistake. The setting in question is not contained in the VM settings, but is part of your (user-specific) global settings.LDag wrote:I deleted the old machine. Please reboot your host to ensure that no VirtualBox component is running, open a Terminal and execute the following command:
Code: Select all
VBoxManage setextradata global VBoxInternal2/SmcDeviceKey
Re: Unable to install Mac OS X Server 10.6.3 on Mac OS 11.6 host.
After running the commando in Terminal the installation starts but stops after a few seconds demanding me to restart the computer. Se screen dump. Log also attached.
Appreciate your help!
